He remains in critical condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital following surgery.

Late on Friday evening, Detective Inspector David Gill said police have seized a vehicle believed to be involved and are questioning two individuals.

“Throughout today, detectives have undertaken numerous enquiries … to determine the movements of the man … and how he sustained his injuries,” he said.

“The police investigation is ongoing and I ask anyone with information to come forward.”

The pair allegedly in the vehicle at the time it was on Swanston Street are “assisting police with their enquiries”.

The vehicle will now be forensically examined, as officers comb through CCTV and information gathered following extensive door knocking in the area.
