Pomona Road blaze: Woman charged with arson after Launceston house destroyed by suspicious fire

A woman has been charged with arson after a Launceston house was completely destroyed by fire overnight.

Firefighters were called to the home on Pomona Road in Riverside just after 11pm on Saturday night.

The house was found “completely engulfed by fire” when emergency services arrived, with two vehicles parked in the driveway also severely damaged.

According to police, no one was home during the blaze and there were no reported injuries. They estimated the total damage to be in excess of $500,000.

The 21-year-old woman was taken into custody and charged with arson in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Authorities urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the Riverside area overnight to report any information to the police or Crimestoppers.
