Hobart’s northern suburbs have been plunged into darkness, with over 800 homes losing power on Wednesday afternoon.

The blackout is affecting Derwent Park, Dowsing Point, Glenorchy, Goodwood and Moonah.

While TasNetworks are still investigating the cause, initial checks have identified a fault in the Lampton Avenue area.

“Crews will investigate and restore power as soon as possible,” a spokesperson said.

“Please stay at least 10 metres clear of any fallen power-lines or other damage.”

The latest power failure comes after a separate incident left almost 850 residents in Glenorchy, Rosetta, and Montrose without power.

That outage was linked to a fire at the Glenorchy Hungry Jack’s restaurant, which caused around $5 million in damage, on Tuesday evening.

TasNetworks are expected to provide an update on the latest outage after 6:30pm.
