The North West Regional Hospital is back up and running after a power outage cause by severe weather forced the facility to rely on generators overnight.
Health Minister Guy Barnett confirmed a “Code Yellow” was called at the hospital this morning as a precaution due to the power disruption.
The code has since been stood down.
“The hospital is prioritising the continued delivery of essential services, with some non-essential services postponed as required, including outpatient appointments and elective surgery,” he said.
“The hospital will contact any patients impacted and we thank them for their understanding.”
Other hospitals in the north and north-west, including Deloraine District Hospital and Beaconsfield District Hospital, have also been affected by power outages.
While Deloraine District Hospital has regained mains power, work is still underway to restore power at Beaconsfield District Hospital.
Minister Barnett thanked healthcare workers for their efforts during the storm and said the government will continue to monitor the situation statewide and advise the public of any disruptions to service delivery.
“My thanks goes out to each and every healthcare worker who are working during this time of emergency to ensure their fellow Tasmanians are getting the care that they need,” he said.
As of 12pm, 29,974 TasNetworks customers were without power across a total of 205 outages.
