Police later caught up to the vehicle and arrested the man, while the fire was extinguished by the Tasmania Fire Service.

“The driver returned a positive oral fluid test and during a search of the vehicle, police located items believed to have been stolen during a burglary at Legana,” police said.

“Police also found and seized quantities of ice and cannabis.”

A later search of a Ravenswood property uncovered further items believed to have been stolen during the Legana burglary.

The man has since been charged with unlawfully setting fire to property, motor vehicle stealing, burglary, stealing and minor drug offences.

He was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
