Section of Richmond Road closed in Cambridge after man reportedly found unconscious

A section of Richmond Road in Cambridge has been closed to traffic after a man was reportedly found unconscious on the side of the road.

The road was shut in both directions from the intersection with Old Richmond Road to the Cambridge roundabout just after 6am on Wednesday.

Police are at the scene and are asking motorists to avoid the area and find an alternate route.

There is currently no estimated time for when the road will reopen.

Updated 10am, Wednesday July 24: Police have since confirmed the man “experienced a medical episode” while driving.

He was assisted at the scene and taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

“Anyone with information who saw a Black Volkswagen Amarok driving in the Richmond Road area about 6:15am this morning should contact police on 131 444,” police said.

The road has since reopened.
