Fatal ATV incident in north-east Tasmania claims life of elderly man

Updated 9:35pm, Tuesday October 22: An elderly man has died following an ATV crash in Lilydale in Tasmania’s north-east on Tuesday afternoon.

The 83-year-old was the only person on the ATV when it reportedly went down a bank on private property around 2pm.

Police say a full investigation will be undertaken and a report prepared for the coroner.

“Tasmania Police offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones of all those involved at this difficult time,” they said.

The man was the only person on the vehicle at the time.

Lilydale

Earlier: An ATV rider has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after they reportedly “went over a bank” in Tasmania’s north-east.

Police and other emergency services were called to the incident on private property in Lilydale just after 2pm on Tuesday.

The rider was the only person on the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A police spokesperson said the rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the rider to hospital for treatment.
