Severe weather causes power outages for over 2,000 across Huon Valley

Wild weather has shut a Huon Valley road after a large tree fell and brought down powerlines.

The road between Garden Island Creek Road and Lowes Road at Garden Island Creek is currently blocked, with police advising motorists to expect delays passing through the area.

TasNetworks say over 2,000 people across the Huon Valley are without power due to the sever weather, with many outages still under investigation.

The outages are impacting areas including Cradoc, Cygnet, Deep Bay, Gardners Bay, Huonville, Kaoota, Nicholls Rivulet, Pelverata, Upper Woodstock, Woodbridge and Abels Bay.

292 people have also been disconnected in the Huntingfield area of Kingston.

“Motorists are asked to please drive with caution in areas affected by the severe weather as there have been several reports of fallen trees, particularly in the Huon Valley area,” police said.
