Firefighters are currently battling a blaze at a veneer factory in Somerset.
Tasmania Fire Service crews were called to the Elizabeth Street fire just after 11pm on Tuesday.
Pulse understands the fire is within the Specialty Veneers factory and has engulfed the factory hopper.
Thick smoke is billowing into the air and can be seen across the Somerset area.
Authorities have assured the public there is no current threat, but have asked people to avoid the area.
“If you are in the immediate area, you can avoid exposure to smoke by staying indoors, closing windows, vents and doors and turning heat pumps and air conditioners to recirculate or off,” a spokesperson said.
“People at higher risk from the effects of smoke, including those with medical conditions, should enact their personal plan for avoiding smoke and managing their health.”
