Smoke has been seen across the Greater Hobart area this afternoon as part of a controlled burn just minutes from the city centre.
The burn-off is underway in the Southern Outlet area, with authorities assuring there is no threat to nearby communities.
The Tasmania Fire Service are conducting the fuel reduction burn, which they say is producing smoke visible around the Southern Outlet, Kingston and parts of greater Hobart.
“The smoke is expected to disperse within overnight,” a spokesperson said.
“If you are in the area, be careful if you are driving in smoke. Turn on your headlights and drive slowly and be aware there may be fire crews working on the burn.”
People at higher risk from the effects of smoke, including those with medical conditions, are advised to follow their personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn and managing their health.
