Driving between Branxholm and Scottsdale is now “safer and more efficient” thanks to recent upgrades to the Tasman Highway.
Several projects that have seen multiple sections of the highway in the state’s north-east upgraded as part of a $4 million package have wound up “on time and budget”, the Transport Minister says.
Among the improvements made to the road new slow vehicle turnouts and a dedicated right-turn lane from the highway into Carisbrook Lane at Legerwood.
“The section of the highway between Branxholm and Scottsdale carries nearly 1,500 vehicles a day, 18.4% of them heavy vehicles,” Minister Michael Ferguson says.
“The Tasman Highway is the main way of getting goods into the region and taking the area’s production to their markets, as well as providing access for tourists.”
Ferguson hopes slow-moving vehicles will “move over and allow those following to pass” at new turnouts east of Jensens Road at Rocky Gully for eastbound traffic and west of Snake Track at Billycock Hill for westbound traffic.
Work on the slow vehicle turnouts got underway in April, while the Carisbrook Lane intersection upgrade began 5 months ago in August.
