Police say the number of reported home burglaries in the Kingston area has dried up over the last week after the arrest of a man from Hobart’s northern suburbs.

The man from Old Beach is accused of travelling south to commit the crimes at homes in Blackmans Bay and Tinderbox in early October.

Inspector Colin Riley said the man was arrested last Wednesday and that there had been no further reports of home burglaries in the area since.

“House burglaries not only lead to significant financial loss but can also create feelings of insecurity in our community,” Riley said.

“With the busy summer months approaching, Kingston Police are encouraging residents to enhance their home security measures.”

He said preventing house burglaries involves a combination of physical security measures, community awareness and personal habits.

“By implementing these measures, community members can significantly reduce the risk of burglary and create a safer environment for themselves and their neighbours,” he said.

According to police, total offences in the Kingston area have dropped 32% compared to the same time last year.
