Summerleas Road in Kingston will reopen next week after being closed for more than six months.

The Kingborough Council shut the road on June 24 for what was initially expected to be around 10 weeks.

However, the closure was extended by over 100 days due to issues with relocating non-council infrastructure and weather-related delays.

Mayor Paula Wriedt said in August that the external infrastructure changes took “longer than anticipated”.

“These delays will have a knock-on effect to the project,” she said at the time.

Work to install all stormwater infrastructure has now been completed and contractors will lay a temporary road seal ahead of the partial reopening on Wednesday, December 18.

“As this project is continuing until March 2025, there will be traffic management in place, including a 40km/h speed limit,” a council spokesperson said.

“The contractors will return to site in early January to continue work on the retaining walls and access ramps either side of the underpass.”
