The road has been closed and Sorell-bound traffic is being diverted onto Cambridge Road at Tunnel Hill.
Updated 9:05am Friday, May 17: The highway has since reopened.
Authorities have reduced the speed limit while engine fluid is removed from the road.
“Motorists are asked to slow down and drive with caution until the fluid is cleared,” police said.
