The Tasmania Devils have officially hit 100,000 founding members, less than 24 hours since the team was officially revealed.

Team officials confirmed the number just before 6pm on Tuesday, saying they’re “extremely grateful” for the support from the Tasmanian community.

“For the dreamers, the Believers, the ‘my new second team’-ers. For Tasmanians and Tasmanians-at-heart. For the point provers and the pure footy fans. Thank you,” they said.

Club Chair Grant O’Brien earlier today said he was amazed at having gained over 75,000 foundation members in just 12 hours after their launch.

The club had initially aimed for 20,000 members, with O’Brien now setting a target of 40,000 by the end of October.

“Everyone attached to the club has been completely blown away by the immediate response,” he said.

“It’s probably not totally unsurprising given the passion for footy and the passion among Tasmanians for this team that existed but still those numbers are extraordinary.”
