A Tasmania Fire Service employee has been stood down after allegedly crashing a TFS vehicle while drunk.

The man, who authorities say works in a ‘non-operational’ role, crashed the government vehicle in Launceston two weeks ago.

A spokesperson said he was breath tested by police at the scene around 7:30am on Tuesday, July 2nd.

He returned a reading of 0.089, 1.78 times the legal limit.

It is understood the man will appear before the Launceston Magistrates Court.
