A southern Tasmanian man has been caught hurtling down a road that was closed due to dangerous conditions at 151km/h.
The man was stopped by police on Highland Lakes Road in Liawenee on Saturday and is facing a hefty fine and a potential four-month licence disqualification.
In addition to the speeding charge, the man will also be fined for ignoring road closure signs that restricted the road to 4WD vehicles only.
“It is important to obey all road closure signage and warning signs, particularly in the hazardous conditions we have been experiencing over the past week,” police said.
“Ignoring road closure signs puts lives at risk and risks the safety of emergency services who have to respond in those conditions.”
“This driving behaviour will not be tolerated and infringements will be issued.”
