Tasmania Police officers have hit the road in a brand new BMW for the long weekend, following extensive trials of various models from the German manufacturer.
The sleek 3 Series (G20) sedan was put through its paces over the northern Recreation Day break as part of a coordinated statewide traffic enforcement effort.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Doug Oosterloo said the new highway patrol vehicle was primarily focused on targeting rural areas during its “first official duties”.
“Tasmania Police is committed to reducing the number of deaths and injuries on our roads, which is why we conduct a range of enforcement activities to make our roads safer for everyone,” he said.
“We must all take responsibility for our actions and make safer choices.”
The 2024 BMW 3 Series G20 has a top speed of 250km/h and can go from 0 to 100km/h in about 5.8 seconds.
CarSales lists the indicative drive away price as anywhere from $86,776 to $127,372 per vehicle.
It is understood that the new BMWs will gradually replace the Kia Stingers used by Tasmania Police since 2022.
