A Southern Tasmanian teenager is lucky to be alive after a death-defying crash on the Huon Highway near Franklin.
The 19-year-old Franklin man, who holds a P2 licence, is being proceeded against by Police after his near-miss around 4pm last Thursday.
Dashcam vision released by authorities today shows the young driver dangerously overtaking another vehicle in wet conditions, striking the other vehicle and narrowly avoiding an oncoming truck before losing control and rolling his vehicle.
Police say it’s lucky nobody was injured in the crash.
“When you add wet roads and reduced visibility to driver inexperience, the outcome of this crash could have been fatal,” said Inspector Colin Riley.
“Unfortunately, provisional drivers are overrepresented in serious and fatal crashes on our roads.”
“I urge all motorists, especially provisional drivers, to slow down and pay attention on the roads – we want everyone to get to their destination safely.”
