Dozens of domestic flights bound for Tasmania have been affected by wild weather conditions at Sydney and Melbourne Airport’s today.
14 Hobart-bound flights experienced a delay or a cancellation on Friday, while Launceston saw 6 affected flights.
“Due to strong winds and scattered storm cells, airlines have cancelled a number of domestic flights and there will be some delays throughout the day,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson said.
The strong winds forced the airport to operate with just one runway on Friday morning.
Delays extended to flights departing Tasmania, with some experiencing delays of up to 2 hours, while others were canceled.
The disruptions followed damaging wind gusts that swept through Sydney on Thursday night and persisted into Friday morning.
In Tasmania’s north, Sharp rescheduled some services to King Island after crosswind conditions exceeding 45 knots were forecasted.
“The forecasted conditions would not permit a safe arrival into King Island at our scheduled normal arrival time,” the airline said.
