Tasmania’s top prison boss Ginna Webster announces resignation

Tasmania’s top prison and corrections boss will step down in July, after more than four decades of service.

Department of Justice Secretary Ginna Webster’s decision to retire was announced this morning.

She began her career in the public service in the 1980s and has held various roles in both the Commonwealth and Tasmanian State Service since.

Webster returned home to Tasmania in 2002 and has held positions in justice, child and youth services and community services.

She was appointed Secretary of the Department of Communities in 2018 before returning to the Department of Justice in 2019.

Attorney-General Guy Barnett thanked Webster for her commitment and dedication and wished her well for the future.

“Ms Webster has been a strong and committed contributor to the State Service and I thank her for her dedication,” he said.

“Kristy Bourne will undertake the role of Acting Secretary of the Department of Justice while a thorough recruitment process takes place.”

Webster will officially finish up on July 31st.
