A tractor driver is facing charges after narrowly avoiding a serious collision with a train.
The incident unfolded on Mersey Main Road in Spreyton just after 10am on Wednesday when the TasRail train slammed into the back of the tractor.
Sergeant Ben Elliott said the tractor was carrying a pallet while the train was loaded with cement.
“Police allege the tractor had crossed an uncontrolled level crossing and failed to give way to the oncoming train,” he said.
“Luckily no injuries were reported.”
The driver of the tractor, a man in his 30s, will now face charges.
Workplace Standards and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator have been notified of the incident.
“Police urge all motorists approaching a railway crossing to slow down, pay attention, approach with caution and obey all signs,” Elliott said.
