Budget airline Bonza is facing an uncertain future after grounding flights across the country today, potentially leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
Early morning flights from Bonza’s Sunshine Coast and Melbourne bases, including the Gold Coast to Launceston route, were all cancelled on Tuesday morning.
In a statement at 8am, CEO Tim Jordan announced all services would be “temporarily suspended”.
He said discussions were underway about the “ongoing viability of the business”.
“We apologise to our customers who are impacted by this and we’re working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian domestic aviation market,” Jordan said.
The airline’s financial health has been under scrutiny since its inaugural flight in early 2023.
In April, a service reduction to Tasmania was implemented due to declining demand.
