Three arrested, firearm found in crashed car after alleged Sheffield burglary

Three people have been charged following a dramatic police chase through the streets of Sheffield that ended in a crash early Sunday morning, while one suspect remains on the loose.

Police were called to the scene of the alleged burglary in the small town just after 1am on Sunday, when, shortly after, an officer spotted a “vehicle of interest”.

The driver is accused of speeding off, which led to a police pursuit that ultimately ended in a crash on Nook Road.

Three people were arrested at the scene of the crash, with just one sustaining minor injuries.

Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered a shotgun, which was seized.

The trio have all been charged with burglary and stealing offences, while the 29-year-old Wynyard man allegedly behind the wheel is also facing evade police, drive whilst disqualified and breach of bail charges.

A 36-year-old man from Ulverstone has been charged with breaching a family violence order and a 39-year-old woman from Penguin faces firearm-related charges.

All three are scheduled to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court today as investigations to identify a fourth offender continue.

Authorities are appealing to any witnesses with information on the incident to come forward to Police or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
