Police have pressed charges against a trio of young people accused of spending their Wednesday afternoon attempting to break into a home on the north-west coast.
Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at a house in Wynyard around 2:30pm.
Inspector Michelle Elmer said a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, along with a youth, were taken into custody a short time later after fleeing in a vehicle.
She said the 19-year-old has also been charged with other traffic violations, including evading police and driving whilst disqualified in connection with the incident.
“Police would like to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident,” Elmer said.
“Police have zero tolerance for this behaviour and the rapid response and apprehension of the offenders serves as a warning to criminals.”
All three will appear in court at a later date.
