The Tasmanian Government has been accused of hypocrisy after it emerged that bonuses were paid to the heads of the state-owned businesses responsible for the troubled Spirit of Tasmania project.

Labor is accusing Premier Jeremy Rockliff of giving out $500,000 in bonuses to executives at TT-Line and TasPorts in the same year the companies oversaw the “biggest infrastructure stuff-up in Tasmanian history”.

Shadow Treasurer Josh Willie says company annual reports show that TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald was paid a $48,000 bonus, while other executives received a total of $190,000.

Senior management at ferry operator TT-Line were also awarded $274,000 in bonuses.

Shadow Treasurer Josh Willie highlighted the figures

“The Premier said he’s taking control of theferries fiasco, but he has completely lost the plot,” Willie said.

“It doesn’t pass the pub test.”

Premier Jeremy Rockliff is facing criticism from Labor

“Premier Rockliff himself said he wouldn’t approve bonuses, but in the annual reports it’s been revealed that’s exactly what took place.”

A government spokesperson said the bonuses were paid in accordance with existing enterprise agreements and were not approved by the Premier.
