Two men found clinging to rocks have been rescued from Tasmania’s south coast after an Easter long weekend boating incident.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in to assist the pair at around 4:30pm on Saturday after their boat ran aground near Southport.
Police said the men managed to scramble onto nearby rocks for safety after their boat filled with water and sank among the rocks at Rossel Point.
The men, who were reportedly uninjured, were safely picked up a short time later.
Inspector Mathew Adams thanked the recreational boaties who alerted authorities and stayed near the scene while emergency services arrived.
“This is a good reminder to all boat users that sea conditions can change quickly,” he said.
“It’s also important for people to wear approved life jackets and to ensure they are properly fitted.”
