A brand new electronic traffic sign on Hobart’s Tasman Highway has been vandalised, just days after it was installed.
The screen at Warrane is one of thirteen being rolled out across the city to display real-time travel times, along with information about crashes, changes in weather and other incidents.
The sign was found defaced with graffiti on Tuesday, with the word “angry” spray-painted in white across the front and black on the back.
A spokesperson for the Department of State Growth said the graffiti will be cleaned off and any necessary repairs will be made.
“The cost will depend on the extent of the damage,” they told Pulse.
“This work will not delay the rollout of the sign program.”
The spokesperson said extensive testing is still underway before the signs can be activated and they are likely to be switched on in stages.
“We will provide updates once dates have been confirmed.”
The screens are being installed on key routes, including the Tasman Highway, Brooker Highway, South Arm Highway and the Southern Outlet.
They are expected to be fully installed by the end of the year.
