Over 4,700 Tasmanians have applied for emergency grant payments in the wake of severe weather that battered the state over the weekend.
As of Thursday night, 3,660 applications had been approved and processed by the state government, totalling around $1.2 million in funds.
The grants are available to assist Tasmanians impacted by the recent storms and are intended to help with the purchase of essential shelter, food, transport and personal items.
Those who endured power outages of at least 72 hours are eligible to receive $350 emergency food grants.
“These have been very challenging circumstances, with many households having the contents of their fridge and freezers ruined by sustained power outages,” Premier Jeremy Rockliff said.
“With cost-of-living pressures challenging many household budgets, the unexpected expense of restocking the fridge and freezer will be difficult for many Tasmanians.”
People in the Derwent Valley and Highlands directly affected by flooding or road closures are also eligible for seperate Emergency Assistance Grants.
The grants are available to residents in areas including Meadowbank, Glenora, Bushy Park, Gretna, Macquarie Plains, Maydena, Strathgordon and surrounds.
Grants are available at $250 per adult over 18 years, $125 per dependent child under 18 years and a maximum of $1,000 for any one family.
