18 HOUR BLACKOUT: Compensation after Midlands power outage

Thousands of dollars in compensation will be paid to residents in Tasmania’s Southern Midlands after a lengthy power outage this weekend.

Properties right across the Midlands lost power on Friday night as the result of strong winds.

A pole fire, sparked by the weather, cut power to people near Tunnack from 5 PM till just before midnight on Friday.

Another power pole came down at York Plains – east of Oatlands, which took out power to approximately 100 properties from 10 PM on Friday until 3 PM on Saturday.

TasNetworks say all customers affected by the lengthy York Plains outage will receive a cheque in the mail for $80 as compensation.
