‘2.5m shark’ spotted near popular marina on Tasmania’s east coast, authorities warn

A two and a half metre long shark has been spotted near the Bicheno marina, authorities say.

Police say sightings just off the Bicheno coast to the north of Governor Island were received on Friday night.

The specific type of shark is not known.

Swimmers and boaties in the area are being urged to take care if venturing into the water.

Shark sightings are not uncommon in Tasmanian waters, with the state home to a diverse range of marine life and several species of sharks.

Anyone with additional shark sightings should report them to police on 131 444.
