Severe weather has left tens of thousands of homes and businesses across Tasmania in the dark, with some areas facing outages that could last several more days.
More than 31,000 customers are currently without power, a number that has more than tripled since earlier in the day.
According to TasNetworks, there are currently 122 outages impacting people in all corners of the state.
While some homes were reconnected in the afternoon, hundreds more, mainly across the north and north-west, are now experiencing outages.
A TasNetworks spokesperson said crews are working to repair the damage but warned that some areas could remain without power for days.
“Crews are working hard to reduce the size of outages and restore power,” they said.
“However due to the extent of the damage and further severe weather expected today and tomorrow, customers should start making preparations to be without power for long periods, possibly through to Monday or Tuesday.”
“For customers that will remain without power overnight, we will do our best to notify them via SMS as soon as we are aware.”
The company’s website is also currently facing technical difficulties due to high demand.
