Two men have been charged after allegedly stealing around $750 worth of property from businesses in the greater Devonport area.
Police were called to two separate shoplifting incidents in Devonport and Sheffield on Tuesday morning.
They reportedly located the pair near the businesses that had been targeted and in possession of the property believed to be stolen.
A 27-year-old Hobart man was found with around $350 of stolen grocery items and a 44-year-old Devonport man was found with around $400 of stolen clothing and food.
Both men have been charged with stealing and bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Inspector Shane LeFevre said police “recognise the impacts that shoplifting has on local businesses and the community as a whole”.
“We will continue to work with businesses and proactively target individuals who chose to do the wrong thing in our community,” he said.
“If you witness illegal or anti-socials behaviours, please report to police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.”
