Hobart ratepayers have been left to foot the cleanup bill after public toilets at Cornelian Bay and Long Beach were graffitied overnight.
The actions come after Hobart’s Palestinian community protested yesterday against State Growth’s decision to light the Tasman Bridge blue and white in support of Israel – an activation which was later cancelled.
City of Hobart City Enablers Director Michael Reynolds said council were notified of a “significant amount of graffiti on City infrastructure at Long Beach and Cornelian Bay” early on Tuesday morning.
“All of the City’s cleansing crews are now working to remove this graffiti as quickly as possible,” he said.
“The City condemns all graffiti and will continue to remove it quickly and efficiently”.
On Sunday, Jeremy Rockliff issued a media release publicly condemning Hamas’ attacks on civilians in Israel.
“The horrific acts of violence committed against innocent civilians are deeply disturbing,” Premier Jeremy said.
Members of Tasmania’s Palestinian community tell Pulse they felt ‘hurt’ that the Government was choosing to support Israel rather than remaining impartial.
Australians are being warned to avoid travelling to Gaza amid the intense situation.
Any Tasmanians in the region should monitor and comply with the latest advice from the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
