A Tasmanian man has been arrested two weeks after he allegedly drove the wrong way up the Brooker Highway following an attempt to drive off from police.

The 32-year-old is accused of driving more than 4.5km into oncoming traffic at high speed along the highway at Granton on September 25.

Police allege the man was travelling towards Hobart in the northbound lanes when he forced multiple vehicles to take evasive action to avoid head-on collisions.

Investigators looked at multiple eyewitness accounts, CCTV and dashcam footage, which they say shows the man weaving in and out of oncoming traffic.
