Tasmania’s Attorney-General has declined to comment on the charges against Justice Gregory Geason following the adjournment of the case until November for sentencing submissions.

Geason, a Supreme Court judge, was found guilty of common assault and emotional abuse or intimidation in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

“Until Justice Geason is sentenced, the prosecution is not concluded,” Attorney-General Guy Barnett said.

“Public commentary on this matter prior to sentencing, including political commentary, has the potential to prejudice this process.”

“Accordingly, it is not appropriate to make any further comments at this time.”

Labor leader Dean Winter has called for Geason to immediately step down from his position on the Supreme Court.

“Let’s get this judge, this crooked judge, this disgraced judge, out of our judicial system,” he said.

“He needs to vacate his position immediately and if he doesn’t, the Parliament needs to act.”
