A cat that went missing in Tasmania’s north eight years ago has been found safe and well.
Shadow disappeared in 2016, leaving her owner heartbroken and searching for her ever since.
Despite the long odds and the passage of time, the owner never gave up hope that Shadow would one day turn up.
That hope became a reality this week when a woman who wished to remain anonymous spotted a cat at Just Cats Tasmania that looked like Shadow and contacted the shelter.
Just Cats founder and director Rachel Beech said staff were able to confirm the cat’s identity thanks to a distinctive mark.
“Sometimes we have amazing stories like this one that gives hope to others to never give up hope when their pets go missing,” Beech wrote online.
“Her owner is totally over the moon and slightly overwhelmed that today after eight years she’s taking Shadow, who is now 15-years-old, back home.”
Beech said the cat’s return to her owner was a happy ending for all involved.
“We are so happy for Shadow too. She can now go and enjoy the rest of her life away from the shelter environment.”
