Cause of outage that left Hobart homes without power revealed

Investigations have revealed that almost 2,000 customers were without power due to damage from fallen trees, TasNetworks say.

Pulse understands the damage occurred on Mount Royal Road near Kingston Beach.

Power was expected to remain off for several hours, with residents advised to expect an update around 5:30PM on Friday, however it was restored shortly before 3pm on Friday.

EARLIER: Close to 1,500 homes after without power following a widespread outage south of Hobart this afternoon.

The outage, which began right on 1pm, has left 1,497 customers in Blackmans Bay, Bonnet Hill, Kingston and Kingston Beach disconnected.

TasNetworks say crews are aware of the outage and are currently investigating the cause.

A re-connection time is not confirmed at this stage, with customers expecting an update around or before 2:30PM.
