The Clarence City Council has revealed that the recent AFL High Performance Centre elector poll came with a price tag of approximately $145,000.
Council chief executive Ian Nelson revealed the figure at a council meeting on Monday, noting that it was within the estimated range provided by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.
“We were obviously told prior to … the elector poll we could expect the cost to be somewhere between $150,000 to $200,000,” Nelson said.
“So it was pleasing to see it was at the low end and not the high end.”
The poll ultimately resulted in a 0.3% rate increase for Clarence residents, Nelson confirmed in July.
It found that a slim majority of the community that voted supported building the AFL High Performance Centre entirely within the Rosny Parklands, with 14,236 or 51.39% voting yes and 13,466 or 48.61% voting no.
The second question, which proposed building the centre across both Rosny Parklands and Charles Hand Park, received less support with 9,681 voters saying yes and 17,846 no.
The Department of State Growth is currently carrying out final site selection and initial planning works for the $70 million facility.
