A young driver on his P-plates has had his car impounded after being caught speeding at 102km/h.

Tasmania Police officers pulled over the 20-year-old on Tinderbox Road south of Hobart on Friday night.

The man was reportedly driving without displaying his P-plates at the time.

He has had his car clamped and will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.

“Speeding not only puts you at risk but other road users as well,” police said.

“We will continue to target the small number of people doing the wrong thing on our roads.”

Locals took to social media to praise the officers, with one saying they were “glad they finally got him”.

“It’s been happening for weeks,” they wrote, with another adding the driving was “so unsafe and driving us crazy”.
