A major police operation in Western Tasmania has led to the charging of over 100 people with various offences in just three months.
Taskforce Scelus officers laid 237 charges against 128 individuals between mid-June and late August, with a focus on disrupting drug and firearm-related crime, as well as traffic violations.
The operation resulted in the seizure of eight firearms, $45,000 in cash and significant quantities of illegal substances, including methylamphetamine, MDMA, LSD and cannabis.
Stolen property valued at approximately $5,000 was also recovered, along with four vehicles out of the 59 that were searched.
In addition to the targeted operations, police conducted numerous traffic stops, charging four drink drivers and 11 for evading police.
52 positive drug drivers were also detected, with results indicating the presence of ice, cannabis and opiates.
Detective Inspector Michelle Elmer said the taskforce remains committed to combating crime in the region.
“Our goal is to reduce crime broadly within our community,” she said.
“Since November last year when the taskforce was established, we have recovered both dangerous firearms and illicit substances that have no place in our community.”
She encouraged anyone with information about criminal activity to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
