Police have launched an investigation into the “dangerous” flying of drones near Hobart Airport.
Authorities received reports around 12:20pm on Monday of two drones being flown close to an inbound aircraft.
Inspector Jon Cooper said police are taking the breach of airspace “seriously” and reminded drone pilots that they “cannot operate a drone in a way that creates a hazard to another aircraft, person or property.”
“The potential outcome of this breach could have been devastating,” he said.
Cooper said police have spoken to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) about the flight paths of the drones.
He is asking anyone who saw drones being flown in the Primrose Sands or Carlton River area around midday on Friday to come forward.
