Launceston police have busted two high-range drink drivers in the city this weekend, with both immediately disqualified and now set to face court.

The pair, both caught by police on patrol, were “visibly intoxicated” when officers pulled them over, Acting Inspector Andrew Hanson said.

One man, a 34-year-old from Queensland, was caught after police watched him drive through a red light near Tamar Street in Launceston at about 1:30 am on Saturday.

His breath analysis returned a reading of 0.214, more than four times the legal limit.

The second man was stopped after officers saw him ‘driving erratically’ in Invermay around 8:30 pm.

His breath analysis returned a reading of 0.303, more than six times the legal limit.

Hanson said both were issued with notices, which “automatically disqualify them from driving.”

“On both occasions police on mobile patrol observed the driving and pulled the drivers over.”

“It goes to show drivers on our roads can expect to encounter police anywhere on our roads at any time.”
