A drugged-up teenage driver has lost his license after he was allegedly caught racing down Hobart’s Southern Outlet at speed of more than 160km/h in the 100km/h zone last night.

The 17-year-old was stopped by police around 8pm on Monday, who also allegedly found him to be positive for drugs.

Inspector Dean McMahon said police are “disgusted and appalled” by the incident.

“The risk this poses is unacceptable,” he said.

The teenager was arrested at the scene and his license was immediately suspended.

His red BMW sedan has also been impounded and he is scheduled to appear in court at a later date on several driving and drug-related charges.

“Tasmania Police is committed to keeping our roads safe and value any assistance from the community,” McMahon said.
