Tasmanian cherry growers have been showcasing their produce at one of the world’s largest fruit trade events in Hong Kong over the past week.
Asia Fruit Logistica brings together exhibitors from 43 countries and attracts over 13,000 visitors annually.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff says the state’s representation at the event is crucial for exporters to build new relationships with buyers and distributors.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity for our State’s hardworking growers to showcase their stock and shine a light on the high-quality produce Tasmania is delivering,” he said.
The state’s fruit industry generates around $400 million annually, with cherries being the largest export, worth $48.28 million.
Minister for Primary Industries Jane Howlett says the industry’s success story is set to continue.
“We know gaining new markets will support the fruit industry to grow even further and that’s why our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future commits $600,000 to Fruit Growers Tasmania to expand its trade presence, including through a trade officer,” she said.
“Having this expertise and support at a local level helps identify opportunities for growth, such as at trade shows like Asia Fruit Logistica.”
The state government helped fund the Tasmanian companies attending the event through its Accelerating Trade Grant Program.
