Motorists are being asked to find an alternate route and avoid the area until further notice.

The road closure comes as a severe weather warning is in place for all of Tasmania, with heavy rain and damaging winds predicted.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the entire state, predicting heavy rain and damaging winds.

“Locally destructive northwesterly winds, averaging 60 to 80km/h with peak gusts in excess of 125km/h are possible about elevated terrain on the coast.”

The BOM expects winds to ease in southern and eastern areas overnight.
