Elephant Pass Road in St Marys has been closed after a large tree fell and blocked the road.
Police and the local council are currently on scene attempting to remove the tree, which has left the road impassable.
Motorists are being asked to find an alternate route and avoid the area until further notice.
The road closure comes as a severe weather warning is in place for all of Tasmania, with heavy rain and damaging winds predicted.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the entire state, predicting heavy rain and damaging winds.
“Damaging northwesterly winds, averaging 60 to 70km/h with peak gusts of around 110km/h are expected to continue this evening,” the BOM says.
“Locally destructive northwesterly winds, averaging 60 to 80km/h with peak gusts in excess of 125km/h are possible about elevated terrain on the coast.”
The BOM expects winds to ease in southern and eastern areas overnight.
