Update – 10:30pm: It has been confirmed what the TFS initially reported as a “bushfire” on kunanyi/Mt Wellington this evening was actually a group of late-night rock climbers and their head torches.

The TFS reportedly received several triple-zero calls concerned about the appearance of ‘flames’ near the Organ Pipes, with emergency services racing up Pinnacle Road to investigate.

A TFS spokesperson told Pulse they have since confirmed there was “no fire”.

It is not clear yet whether the rock climbers will face any penalties for their late-night false alarm, with police saying the responsibility will fall with the Wellington Park Management Trust.
