Teenager hospitalised after Bridgewater house fire, arson investigation launched

Updated 4pm, Monday 4 December: A fire that tore through a Bridgewater house and left the property significantly damaged this afternoon may have been arson.

Police say officers are investigating the circumstances of the blaze that saw the Scott Road home go up in flames around 12:40pm on Monday.

“Fire investigators determined it was likely to be deliberately lit. While firefighters responded quickly and prevented the fire from spreading, the residence was significantly damaged,” police said.

A 17-year-old who was inside the house at the time was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Anyone with information on the blaze is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Firefighters contain blaze that ‘fully engulfed’ Bridgewater house

1:30pm, Monday 4 December: A house fire in Bridgewater has been successfully extinguished by firefighters after it erupted in flames earlier this afternoon.

The Tasmania Fire Service say the property on Scott Road was “fully involved in fire” when crews from Bridgewater and Glenorchy arrived around 1pm on Monday.

The extent of the fire and its cause are not yet known.
