A new multi-storey development is set to transform a site along the Channel Highway in Taroona, bringing with it new apartments, retail spaces and a food outlet.
The proposed three-storey building, which will stand at 12-metres tall, will be located adjacent to the Taroona Shopping Centre.
Plans lodged with the Kingborough Council reveal the complex will include 18 apartments, a basement and rooftop terrace.
It will also have 41 resident parking spaces, 24 spaces for commercial tenants, four motorcycle spaces and three bicycle spaces.
The development will involve the demolition of two existing homes.
According to a traffic impact assessment, the project is expected to generate 206 additional daily vehicle trips.
Developers have acknowledged that while the proposed building does challenge some requirements of the planning scheme, they say it fits within acceptable use.
The development application is currently open for public comment until mid-September.
