Four police vehicles were damaged during a “rare” and wild “gathering” in Clarendon Vale on Friday night
Police received multiple calls from residents in the area of Bradman Street from 3pm, reporting people hooning, performing burnouts and setting off fireworks.
“Numerous calls for assistance were made to police over several hours,” Tasmania Police Inspector Dean McMahon said.
“As behaviour continued to escalate, additional police attended.”
Police drone vision captured the incident, showing the crowd of people throwing bricks and fireworks at officers.
One of the offenders also set fire to their own vehicle, before the gathering dispersed around midnight.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable in our communities,” the Inspector said.
“It is fortunate that no one was injured, including our officers whose safety was at risk last night.”
“Tasmania Police will not tolerate such behaviour and is committed to hold people who engaged in such activities to account.”
It’s understood the event was a funeral wake, celebrating the life of a local resident.
Police are reviewing the footage to identify and prosecute the offenders.
“From a Tasmania perspective this type of incident is rare,” McMahon said.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
